Round Robins
Up until recently I had no idea what a round robin was. And probably like many others I was thinking, “well eh that’s ok. I don’t want or need to know what it is. I’m winning some bets. It’s probably complicated anyway.” Well think again. Open your mind. Trust me you need to know what a round robin is right now!!! So I guess no pressure but here are some of my thoughts about the round robin.
So we have straight bets. Then we have parlays. Think of a round robin as a somewhat controllable parlay. As we know a parlay is when you are betting on multiple outcomes. These outcomes are linked together. Parlays can be done with at least 2 linked bets. People usually refer to each bet as a leg. 2leg parlay, 3 leg parlay, 4leg parlay, etc. Parlays can even be done across fights on the same event; or/and different fight cards (fight night, ufc199, ufc 202, etc); and/or different sports. (mlb, nfl, mma, and soccer)
The primary deterrent/concern that makes parlays undesirable is the margin of error. if you have a four man parlay, but one part loses. You Lose. No objections. Now with a round robin that’s not necessarily the case. Round Robins are a parlays best friend. So if you have a 4 man parlay and you do round robins you will have the option to determine the number of teams. So if you selected 2 man teams; the round robin breaks your selected 4 bets and pairs them in teams of 2. So if one or 2 of your legs loses you can still possibly win some money back.
So let’s say your choices were as follows:
i. Brazil defeats Haiti (-350)
ii. Stephen Thompson over Rory MacDonald (-250)
iii. Warriors defeats Cavs (+450)
iv. Edgar defeats Aldo (+350)
So if all 4 win. You win a 4 man parlay. But if you also did a round robin all of the round robins will win also!
i. Brazil defeats Haiti (-350)
ii. Stephen Thompson over Rory MacDonald (-250)
iii. Warriors defeats Cavs (+450)
iv. Edgar defeats Aldo (+350)
If 2 of the outcomes are wins and 2 are losses. You will lose the 4 man parlay but can still win at least 2 Round Robins. For me a Round Robin is like a parlay merged with straight bets.
i. Stephen Thompson over Rory MacDonald (-250) win
ii. Edgar defeats Aldo (+350) win
If 3 of the outcomes are wins, and 1 is a loss. You lose the 4 man parlay but you WILL WIN some Round Robins! It’s an excellent way of preventing full loss of money; you can even win more money. You could have chosen teams of 2, or 3. Since it’s a 4 man parlay you can’t do teams of 4.
i. Stephen Thompson over Rory MacDonald (-250)
ii. Warriors defeats Cavs (+450)
iii. Edgar defeats Aldo (+350)
In both scenarios money was won! In both scenarios leg one lost. Brazil was defeated and you lost the 4 man parlay. But you still won. And what’s even better is that you had @ least 1 underdog in both scenarios that linked up for a win.
Inclosing, Parlays can be very beneficial and profitable however initially you may want to proceed with some caution/reservation. If you have 3 man parlay and you did Round Robins and at least 2 legs lose then you won’t win. The round robins revitalizes the parlay bet in my opinion. If all legs win in a parlay all legs automatically will win on each round robin. Round Robins supercharge parlays/
