Will A Championship Come to New York This Year?

It’s a common train of thought in big market cities across North America, ‘will one of our teams bring a championship home this year?

New York has a better shot at this than most cities around the globe because they don't just have one, two, or three top-flight professional teams, but New York has the Mets, the Yankees, the Jets, the Giants, the Rangers, the Islanders, the Knicks, and the Nets!

There are eight ‘big league’ teams in NY, nine if you count New York City FC for the MLS, and ten if you throw in the Liberty for the WNBA.

But out of the big eight, are there any top contenders in 2022-2023 to win it all?

NY Giants Odds to Win the Super Bowl

The Giants currently have some of the longest odds in the NFL to win the big game. They sit at +13000, meaning that for every 100 dollars you throw down, it would net you 13000 dollars if they won. That’s how confident the sportsbooks are that a championship won’t be coming by way of the G Men.

NY Jets

If you think the Giants have long odds of winning Super Bowl 57, it only worsens. The Jets are flying into the 2022-2023 season with one smoking prop and the sputtering. The Jets don’t have the worst odds in the league at +15000, as you can find the Atlanta Falcons and the Houston Texans way down in the dredges. But it isn’t looking good for Gang Green.

Brooklyn Nets

The damn Celtics are the new favorite to win the NBA title in 2022-2023. They just slid past the Golden State Warriors at most betting outlets. That said, depending on where you look, the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Clippers are all in the mix.

Where does that leave the Nets?

Brooklyn is +2500 to win it all, but I have seen them as low as +2200. This number puts them on the right side of the middle of the pack—around the 12th position on the odds boards.

NY Knicks

As of today, you can find the Knicks between +6600 and +7000. They are pushing the No. 20 spot on the boards, currently riding around No. 18. That said, I believe this is going to be an exciting team this year, and I can’t wait to see how all of their off-season activity plays out.

NY Rangers

Over in the world of violent soccer on ice, we have the Maple Leafs, Avalanche, and Lighting at the top of the boards for the 2023 Stanley Cup.

The NY Rangers are not too far out of it, though, at +2000. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the No. 9 spot on the NHL oddsboards. So, as far as bang for you betting buck is concerned, the Rangers might be an option for a semi-long shot with a legitimate chance at winning. If you feel like slapping the puck the Rangers’ way, here are some New York sportsbook promo codes.

NY Islanders

The New York Islanders' odds of +3500 to with the cup don't look that bad either, considering the Blackhawks and Coyotes are both +50000 … which equals not a snowball’s chance in hell. Even the Ducks, Kraken, Flyers, Sharks, and Canadiens are all +15000 and up!

NY Mets

OK, NY sports fans, now we’re getting to the goods. La creme de la crème de la crème, if you know what I mean.

Why? Well, first off, it’s baseball. Second, the season is already at the halfway point, and the Amazin’ Mets are doing pretty darn well. At this point, they have a 99.3% chance of making the postseason and just under a 10% chance of winning the whole shebang. If you are a stats guy, gal, guy-gal, gal-guy, or toaster, and baseball fan, you know that 10% is a big deal in this sport. The Mets are sitting as the 4th most probable team to win it all based on the remaining schedule, power ratings, and projections from simulations.

NY Yankees

The Yanks still sit just behind the Los Angeles Dodgers as the odds-on favorites to win the 2022 World Series. But I have news for you dodgers fans, the chance that the Yankees will win is 25% compared to that of the Dodgers at 22.5%.

When we break it all down, there is a high likelihood that we’ll see the Yanks and Dodgers in the Fall Classic. And heck, even if the Yankees don't win the series, they’ll still likely bring home the AL Pennant, which they are the odds-on favorites for at just +190.

Conclusion

If a championship comes to New York in 2022/2023, it is most likely coming from one of the biggest arenas in sports, major league baseball. The Mets have a great shot at making it to the World Series and the Yankees an even better shot. Heck, there are even odds that the Mets and Yanks meet in the Classic for the first time since the Bombers beat the Amazin’ 4-3 back in 2000.

Wouldn’t that be something?
